Kang Yatse 1 – Itinerary

The provisional schedule of the itinerary is given day-by-day below. A map of the trek can be found here.

09 January: Fly from Amsterdam to New Delhi with KLM flight KL871, departure 12:00 h from Schiphol Airport

10 January: Arrive in Delhi, Indira Gandhi International Airport at 00:30 h; corona testing and hotel.

11 January: Double Tree by Hilton Gurugram Baani Square

12 January: Fly from Delhi to Leh (Ladakh) with Air India flight AI445, departure 06:50 h from Indira Gandhi International Airport, arriving in Leh at Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport at 8:20 h. Check-in Hotel Padma Ladakh.

13 January: Visit Thiksay Monastery in the morning; walk to Shanti Stupa in the afternoon.

14 January: Walk through Changspa to Gyamsa and return through Leh Palace back to Hotel.

15 January:  Drive from Leh to Chilling (~ 3 hours) via the Spituk Monastery and the major monuments Gurudwara Pathar Sahib. From Chilling walk through Kaya village to Skyu village (~ 3430m) for overnight campsite.

16 January: Trek from Skiu to Markha (~ 3750 m) in about 8 h along Markha river; overnight camping.

17 January: Hike  (~6 h) from Markha  to Thochuntse (~ 4300 m) along Markha river via Umlung and Hankar; overnight camping.

18 January: Trek from Thochuntse to KY base camp (~5100 m) in about 5 h.

19 January:  Rest day to acclimatize – short hike to Crampon Point (~3 h).

20 January: Climb up to establish Camp 1 (~ 5440m)

21 January: Climb up to establish Camp 2 (~ 5750 m)

22-23 January: Summit and return to either Camp 1 or KY base camp

24 Jan:  Descend from KY Base camp via Kangmaru La (~5200 m) to Chokdo (~ 3960 m) in ~8 hours. Then drive back to Leh

25 January:  Fly back from Leh Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport with Air India flight AI446, departure 11:50 h to Delhi, arriving at Indira Gandhi International Airport at 13:35 h.

26 January: Fly from Delhi, Indira Gandhi International Airport, with KLM flight KL872, departure 02:40 h, to Amsterdam, arriving at Schiphol airport 08:25 h.
